Belly-dance lessons on tap in Wilde Lake

The Wilde Lake Community Association will sponsor belly-dance lessons next month with Mia Naja al Sephira at Slayton House in Wilde Lake Village.

The beginner class for ages 16 and older will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; the intermediate class will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Session I will run Tuesdays, from Sept. 3 to Oct. 22. Session II will run Sundays, from Sept. 29 through Dec. 17.

The cost is $58 for eight weeks. Advance, paid registration is required.

Editorial cartoonist KAL to speak at library

The Howard County Library, 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway, will sponsor a presentation by Kevin "KAL" Kallaugher, editorial cartoonist for The Sun, at 7 p.m. Sept. 5.

Kallaugher creates five editorial cartoons each week for The Sun and two for The Economist. He is also the author of three collections of his most famous cartoons. He will sign copies of his most recent book, KAL Draws The Line.

He will draw, show slides and talk about the challenges of political cartooning since Sept. 11.

10-week session for seniors to focus on the positive

The Howard County Department of Aging will sponsor a new free session of SPRING Sunbeams for 10 weeks at the Florence Bain Senior Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way.

The first meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 5. It will help participants focus on being more positive in their dealings with others.

Reports for duty: Marine Pfc. Oliver M. Fitzjohn has reported for duty with the 1st Stinger Battery, Marine Air Control Group 18, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Okinawa, Japan. He is a 1997 graduate of Wilde Lake High School.

Boosters to meet: Atholton High School Boosters Association will hold its first meeting of the school year at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at the school, 6520 Freetown Road. Traveling art The central library, 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway, will present the next in a series of outreach programs by the Smithsonian Museum, "Have Art; Will Travel," at 7 p.m. Aug. 28.
