South County center to offer computer workshops in Sept.

South County Senior Center in Edgewood will offer a series of computer workshops next month. Center membership is necessary and can be attained at sign-up. The classes are free, but are on a first-come, first-served basis. Seniors 55 and older are encouraged to register. The classes include:

Sept. 17, 9:30 a.m. to noon, beginning computer; 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., word processing.

Sept. 18, 9:30 a.m. to noon, beginning computer.

Sept. 19 and Sept. 23, 9:30 a.m. to noon, Internet, e-mail and World Wide Web.

Sept. 23, 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., word processing.

Sept. 25 and 26, 9:30 a.m. to noon, Internet, e-mail and World Wide Web.

AACC language classes to be held in October

South County Senior Center will offer three Anne Arundel Community College language classes in October. Registration will begin Sept. 3.

The classes include:

French, 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Mondays beginning Oct. 7.

Spanish, 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Oct. 1.

Beginning Spanish, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning Oct. 3.

Registration forms are available at the center. There is a fee for the classes.

Classes on computers, 20th century offered

O'Malley Senior Center will offer new courses for the fall cycle. The classes include a new Level II computer class, Personal Computing, The course will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will cover basics, Microsoft Word, graphics, photo processing, the Internet and e-mail attachments. Owning a personal computer is a prerequisite for registering for this course.

A survey course, "Critical Issues of the 20th Century," will be offered from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Fridays. The class will give students an overall view of the development of America from 1900 to 1970.

An Internet course will be offered from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The class will cover the basics, Internet providers, copy and paste, e-mail, attachments, Web addresses, search engines, viruses and firewalls.

Trips to Eastern Shore, Shawnee Inn planned

Pasadena Senior Center Tour Committee has several trips on its agenda, including:

Visit to the Red Roost Inn in White Haven on the Eastern Shore tomorrow. The cost is $54 and includes baskets of chicken, fried clam strips, fried shrimp, Maryland steamed crabs, hush puppies and corn on the cob. Sing-along entertainment will be provided by the Back Fin Banjo Band. Participants will depart at 9:15 a.m. and return about 6:30 p.m.

Shawnee-on-Delaware, Pa., Oct. 8. The cost is $70, and includes a trip to Shawnee Inn and Octoberfest in the resort village in the Poconos. A continental breakfast will be served. The day also will feature a two-hour open bar with wine, soda and beer; a buffet dinner; and bingo. Participants will depart from the center at 6:45 a.m. and return at 8 p.m.

Pasadena center plans health events, music

Pasadena Senior Center has announced activities for the month, including:

Sing-along with George Silate and the Gang at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

A porcelain-flower workshop from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. today and Friday. Space is limited to 10 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. A $6 supply fee will be collected.

Blood pressure screenings and diabetes monitoring from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. tomorrow.

A van trip to Quiet Waters Park, to depart at 10:30 a.m. and return about 2 p.m. tomorrow. Participants can take lunch or purchase it at the park.

A performance by Stuart Wong, a violinist from St. Francis School, at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday.

A talk by Jo Shane from the Retired Senior Volunteer Program on senior volunteer opportunities from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 28.

A Labor Day Party from noon to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 29, featuring karaoke and lunch. Registration is due by tomorrow.

Instructors needed to teach exercise, crafts

The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging's Senior Nutrition Program is seeking instructors from the Maryland City/Laurel area to teach low-impact aerobics, armchair exercise, yoga, line dancing, genealogy, crafts and crocheting. O'Malley center, AACC to offer golf instruction

Registration for golf instruction will be held through Aug. 30 at O'Malley Senior Center. A morning session of instruction will run from 10 a.m. to noon with an afternoon session from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The first class will be held Sept. 9 at the center. The remaining classes will be held at Night Hawk Driving Range on Route 3.
