Networking breakfast to be held Thursday at Laurel Park

The Baltimore-Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce will hold a Power Networking Breakfast with 10 other chambers of commerce and business organizations from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the Carriage Room of Laurel Park, in Laurel. The event is sponsored by Patuxent Publishing Co.

Participating will be the Maryland Chamber, BWI Development Council, Entrepreneur's Exchange, Greater Bowie Chamber, Greater Crofton Chamber, Northern Anne Arundel Chamber, Pasadena Business Association, Severna Park Chamber, Southern Anne Arundel Chamber and West Anne Arundel Chamber.

Reservations are requested. The cost for members who pay in advance is $18; payment at the door for members and nonmembers is $25.

Nutrient management plans are focus of course

The University of Maryland Cooperative Extension and the Department of Natural Resource Sciences and Landscape Architecture will offer a course for nursery and greenhouse crop managers and nutrient management consultants interested in learning how to write effective nutrient management plans for nursery and greenhouse operations.

Participants will learn to make recommendations for site-specific management practices in accordance with Maryland's 1998 Water Quality Improvement Act.

Online learning will be supplemented by a series of four or five half-day plan-writing sessions at Maryland nursery and greenhouse operations.

The course will run from Aug. 29 through mid-December.

Middle Eastern music: Yoga Center of Columbia, 8950 Route 108, Suite 109, will sponsor a live concert of Middle Eastern music by the group Bija from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 14. Vocalist Jan Eyer and sitar player John Protopapas will perform. Tickets are $10. Profits will be donated to the Howard County Volunteer Fireman's Association Inc., to be used to provide drinks and refreshments to personnel on duty during extended calls. Career fair: Howard County Human Resources Society, a new affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management, will sponsor a Workforce Development Career Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 2 at Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville. Work force development staff members will be available to critique job seekers' resumes. Two workshops on how to conduct a successful job search will be offered. Employers can rent a booth for $300 to $350; the price includes set-up, advertising, a continental breakfast and buffet lunch. Sponsors are being sought.
