Ferguson takes seniors crown

Bunky Ferguson, 58, posted a 1-over-par 38-34 - 72 at Forest Park Golf Club, then had to wait while 14 players in the 50-54 age group fired and fell back, enabling him to record his first tournament victory in the eighth annual Seniors championship of the Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation yesterday.

Ferguson, whose first-time experience last year brought him back, was 4-over through 14 holes, then suddenly came alive with birdies on three of the last four holes. The three key putts were part of his lowest round of the season.

There were two playoffs as Ed McCleary had a par on the first extra hole to defeat Donald Stout for low gross in the 50-54 division after they tied with 74s. Bill Robinson had a par on the second extra hole to outlast Bernard Guyer for low net in the 55-59 division after tying with 64s. Andy Tatchyn (50-54) rode a career-round 79 to the low net of the day, 79-17-62.
