Boy, 13, is wounded when gun discharges

TOWSON - A Towson man was cleaning his 9 mm handgun last night when it discharged, striking his 13-year-old stepson in the abdomen, Baltimore County police reported.

The boy, whose name was not immediately disclosed, was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital. Police identified the stepfather as Eric Seals, 36, of the 800 block of Scarlett Drive.

The shooting occurred at 10:30 p.m. in the basement of the home. Police were questioning Eric Seals last night. No charges had been filed.

Driver charged after officer is hit, injured by car

A Baltimore police officer was injured yesterday during a routine drug arrest when a suspect suddenly drove in reverse, hitting the officer with her car and knocking him to the ground, police said.

The incident occurred about 4 p.m. in the 100 block of S. Fulton Ave. Officer Hikeen Crampton was taken to Mercy Medical Center, where he was treated and released, said Lt. Mark Callahan.

The driver of the car, whose name was not immediately released, was charged with assault with the intent to murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and three counts of possession of illegal drugs.

City man dies, woman hurt in Route 50 crash in Berlin

BERLIN - A 32-year-old Baltimore man was killed early yesterday morning when his car crashed into a tree in the median of Route 50 at Route 346.

Police identified the victim as Richard Scott McLaren of the 5400 block of Belair Road. A passenger, Katherine Bond, 33, of the 6000 block of Marluth Ave. in Baltimore, was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was listed in critical condition.

The accident occurred about 2:12 a.m., police said.
