American Culinary Federation honors Rudy's 2900

The American Culinary Federation has awarded its new ACF Achievement of Culinary Excellence to Rudy's 2900 in Finksburg.

The award was given to six restaurants in the country during ACF's convention in Las Vegas last month. During the convention, the federation honors restaurants that have achieved the highest level of culinary excellence.

Rudy's 2900 was the only mid-Atlantic restaurant chosen for the award.

Rudy's is operated by Rudy Speckamp, certified master chef, and Rudi Paul, maitre d.'

The restaurant is celebrating its 19th anniversary.

Multiple Sclerosis Society launches fund-raisers

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society will hold its UGLY Challenge fund-raiser this month through October.

Bars and restaurants are encouraged to hold fun events for patrons to raise money for the MS Society to help find a cause and cure for the debilitating disease.

Participating Carroll County businesses include E.A. Poe's, Nathan Henry's, Ya-Ya's and Salerno's/Poppy Club in Eldersburg, and E. W. Beck's in Sykesville.

Biz Tech Exposition set for Oct. 18 at CCC

The Carroll County Technology Council, Chamber of Commerce and Carroll Community College will hold the Biz Tech Exposition 2002 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 18 at the college.

Businesses will offer information and demonstrations on such topics as banking electronically by BB&T, video conferencing by CTSI, in-house marketing by Kohn Creative Solutions and using Microsoft Office by the college.

Mario Armstrong, host of The Digital Spin on WMAR-TV, will be master of ceremonies.

Businesses must register in advance to participate. Registration fees are $20 by Oct. 1 and $25 after Oct. 1. Fees include workshops, exhibits, continental breakfast and box lunch.

Garage doors dealer gets top accreditation

Mount Garage Doors owner David Mount has received accreditation from the Institute of Door Dealer Education and Accreditation (IDEA).

Mount is the first dealer in the Frederick/Carroll area to earn this recognition and the second in Maryland.

The IDEA accreditation is based on six exams and is recognized as a symbol of quality and professionalism.

Mount, 32, has more than 10 years of experience and operates as a family business with his wife, Julie, and brother, Brian. Mount Garage Doors, of Westminster, offers installation, service and repair to residential and commercial customers.

Jones investment firm wins customer praise

The financial services firm of Edward Jones has tied for highest honors in J.D. Power and Associates' first study of customer satisfaction among full-service investors.

The ranking, released in June as the 2002 Full-Service Customer Satisfaction Study, ranked Edward Jones ahead of 19 investment firms.

The study was based on responses from more than 8,500 clients who invest with one of 21 firms. Factors that were considered included customer service, advice, account management, information resources, Web site capability and cost of transactions and services.
