Preseason rewind

A recap of the Ravens' 34-16 loss to the New York Jets on Thursday:

Thumbs up: Running back Jamal Lewis' first game back since blowing out his left knee provided some memorable carries. He gained 24 yards in his final three runs and showed raw power on one attempt by dragging four Jets tacklers - who combined for nearly 1,000 pounds - with him. ... Quarterback Chris Redman worked within the system and finished 15-for-22 passing (68 percent) for 102 yards. Unlike last week, the first-year starter didn't force throws downfield and kept drives alive with high-percentage passes. ... Backup running back Chester Taylor provided a spark with 42 yards on 10 carries. ... The Ravens' special teams provided another big play, with Javin Hunter running back a kickoff 99 yards for the team's first touchdown of the preseason. ... The Ravens' defense didn't allow a third-down conversion, shutting down the Jets on eight third-down attempts.

Thumbs down: Third-string running back Tellis Redmon didn't make a case for a roster spot, fumbling twice on six carries. ... Where was receiver Travis Taylor? He had one catch for 8 yards and was flagged for a holding penalty at the Jets' 21-yard line to stall a drive. ... Matt Stover missed wide right on attempts from 42 and 49 yards. ... Backup quarterback Jeff Blake became visibly frustrated working behind a reserve offensive line. In the third quarter, he was 0-for-4 and had such forgettable moments as throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown and fumbling at his 1-yard line after getting stripped from behind. ... Ravens cornerbacks Alvin Porter and Reggie Waddell bit on several head fakes and got caught out of position. ... In backup duty at center, Casey Rabach floated a shotgun snap wide right of Redman, which led to a turnover.

Quote to note: "So many errors, so little time. The players have Saturday morning off, so I'm glad I did that because it's going to take us a good day and a half to kind of sort through. We found some good things individually; we found nothing collectively." - Ravens coach Brian Billick, addressing Thursday's mistake-filled game.

Stat to watch: 50.3: Dave Zastudil's average on three punts.

Training camp schedule: The players were off yesterday. The team will have a light practice today from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Countdown to season opener: 22 days.
