Tyshan Lovette Johnson, 34, SSA security guard

August 15, 2002

Tyshan Lovette Johnson, a security guard assigned to the Social Security Administration, died in a car accident with a co-worker Friday in Prince George's County as they were on their way to receive firearms training. The Woodlawn resident and mother of one daughter was 34.

The East Baltimore native graduated from Dunbar High School in 1986. After a stint as a phlebotomist at Johns Hopkins Hospital, she became a dental assistant, working for a dentist in Columbia and at the Maryland House of Correction in Jessup during the 1990s.

Shortly before her death, Ms. Johnson told family members that she was at a turning point. Her new shift work for Heritage Security Systems, at the federal agency's Woodlawn headquarters, would allow her to spend more time with her daughter, Tyana Tyshan Bratcher, 6.

She was looking forward to buying a house soon, family members said.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Ark Church, 1263 E. North Ave., where she was a member.

She is also survived by her mother and stepfather, Barbara Ann Shields and George R. Evans of Baltimore; her father, William I. Johnson of Baltimore; and a twin sister, Tysha Lynette Johnson of San Diego.
