Nicholas J. Gray Jr., 59, custodian for city agency

Nicholas J. Gray Jr., a retired custodian who had worked for the city Department of Recreation and Parks, died of cancer Aug. 7 at his East Baltimore home. He was 59.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and raised in Sanford, N.C., where he graduated from high school, Mr. Gray had previously worked as a baker in Atlantic City, N.J.

He was a custodian for 29 years with the city parks agency until retiring this year.

He was a member of the Pentecostal Missionary Travelers Church and was ordained as an elder in 1988.

His marriage to the former Dobie Howard ended in divorce.

Services were held Sunday in Atlantic City.

Survivors include a sister, Joyce Gray-Keates of Atlantic City, and a niece and nephew.
