Bette Ceanfaglione, 78, Brown Memorial deacon

Bette Ceanfaglione, a homemaker who was an active member of Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church for more than 55 years, died of complications from multiple sclerosis Sunday at the Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care. She was 78.

She was born Bette Tavani in Albert, W.Va., where she graduated from high school.

In 1942, she married Frank V. Ceanfaglione, who survives her. The couple had lived in Parkville since 1952.

A deeply religious woman, Mrs. Cenafaglione joined Brown Memorial Park Avenue United Presbyterian Church in 1947 and then in the mid-60s joined Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church in the Woodbrook section of Baltimore County.

Mrs. Ceanfaglione was a church deacon and elder and held every elected office in the church, including membership on the pastor nominating committee and president of the Women's Association. She also had been Christian education director.

She and her husband, a retired plant supervisor for S. Schapiro & Sons, a Baltimore textile manufacturer, served as directors of the Older Adult Experience at Camp Chesapeake, which is affiliated with the church, for many years. She also established the "Saints and Sinners" study program for the Baltimore Presbytery.

Besides her work at Brown Memorial Woodbrook, Mrs. Ceanfaglione also conducted Bible study classes at Babcock United Presbyterian Church in Towson.

The Baltimore Presbytery selected her last year as the "Outstanding Older Adult Woman of the Year."

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Aug. 25 at Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church, Charles Street and Woodbrook Lane, Woodbrook.

Other survivors include a son, Marc F. Ceanfaglione of Parkville; a daughter, Elizabeth M. Ceanfaglione of Pinehurst; a sister, Lucia O'Malley of Baltimore; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
