Mount Airy merchants to offer Sizzling Sidewalk Sale bargains

Downtown Mount Airy Business Association will hold its first Sizzling Sidewalk Sale on Aug. 16 and 17.

Downtown stores will offer bargains from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Merchants will decorate their tables with balloons to help shoppers locate sale items.

Mount Airy is home to restaurants and shops that sell gifts, collectibles, books, antiques, trains, candy and garden items.

The 12 participating stores are on Main Street, Prospect Road and Cross Street, and within walking distance of each other.

The sale will be held rain or shine.

@SUBHEDMount Airy library to present music, stories

The Mount Airy library branch, 705 Ridge Ave., will offer:

"Year-round Story Time" for all ages (age 3 and younger must be with an adult) at 11 a.m. today, and at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Mount Airy Book Club for adults at 7 p.m. Aug. 20 and 1 p.m. Aug. 21 to discuss The Saving Graces by Patricia Gaffney.

Kindermusic director Debbie Henning with a preview of her music education program for young children Aug. 21. Kindermusic features music, movement, singing and story time. "Village" for ages newborn to 18 months will be held at 9:45 a.m.; "Our Time" for ages 18 months to 3 years will be at 10:30 a.m.; and "Imagine That" for ages 3 to 5 at 11:15 a.m. Registration is required.

@SUBHEDLions Club installs officers for 2002-2003

Taylorsville-Winfield Lions Club recently installed officers for 2002-2003.

Past International Director Murray Ryan, who helped start the club, performed the installation ceremony.

New officers are: Les Arndt, president; Bob Garber, first vice president; Hal Wilner, second vice president;

Also, Charles Burrier Jr., secretary; Kent Eitemiller, treasurer;

Other officers are Viki Peltier, tail twister; Ed Bennett, lion tamer; Cindy Arndt, membership director; Tom Harney and Mike Arndt, one-year directors;

Also, Liz Eitemiller and Betty Sensabaugh, two-year directors; Pat Renehan and Richard Dixon, three-year directors.
