Jennifer Thompson came from two strokes behind to win by seven strokes, posting her second straight Women's Golf Association championship yesterday at Lutherville's Chestnut Ridge Country Club.

She posted a 2-under-par 72 yesterday, giving her a 36-hole total of 152 on her home course.

Thompson and four-time titlist Cindy Peterka, from Sparrows Point Country Club, were even after 11 holes. But Thompson went on a birdie-eagle-birdie binge, and Peterka double-bogeyed the 12th.

Thompson's eagle came on the 409-yard 13th, a par-5 for women. Her second shot, with a 7-iron, landed 12 feet from the pin, and she made the putt.

Peterka finished 82-77-159 for her second straight senior (50-over) trophy. As a result, Sandy Scitti (Sparrows Point Country Club, 83-80-163) edged Natalie McNicholas (Baltimore Country Club, 83-80) on a match of cards for overall runner-up, the latter becoming a flight winner.

"I was pumped up to be in the chase," Thompson said, "and looking to boost my confidence when the round started. I might have been a little lazy in the first round, but not this time."

She birdied the first hole and went on to slip 1-under par for each nine of the 5,827-yard course.

MAPGA Stableford: Mark Evenson, teaching pro at Suburban Country Club, totaled plus-19 to win the Middle Atlantic PGA event at Meadowbrook Country Club in Richmond, Va. Hagerstown's Dirk Schultz (plus 18) was second.
