Volunteer naturalist training to be offered

The Howard County Conservancy will offer volunteer naturalist training from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 4, 11 and 18 at Mount Pleasant, 10520 Old Frederick Road, Woodstock. The training will teach volunteers to lead nature walks for the conservancy.

The training costs $30, which will be returned when volunteers have led three programs.

Celestial Searchers to hold Perseids Party

The Celestial Searchers will sponsor its Perseids Party at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Carrs Mill Park in Glenwood. Joel Goodman, president of Celestial Searchers, will give a presentation at 8:45 p.m. on "What's a Meteor Shower and How Do I See As Many As Possible?"

Donations accepted: Shepherd of the Glen Lutheran Church seeks donations of books, compact discs, videos, records, cassettes and computer software for the seventh Media Sale on Sept. 6 and 7. Shop, party: Western Howard County Senior Center, 2398 Route 97, Cooksville, will sponsor a trip from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Towson Town Center, with lunch at the Rain Forest Cafe. Drivers are needed. A Banana Split Party and entertainment by the Golden Girls tap-dance troupe is planned at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The cost is $3, including lunch. Contemporary fiction: The Glenwood library, 2350 Route 97, Cooksville, will sponsor "Beach Bash," a program of stories and songs about summer and the beach for children ages 3 and older, at 7 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. Wednesday. Registration is required. "Spooky Tales," a program of stories and songs around the campfire for families, will begin at 7 p.m. Aug. 19. Young children must be accompanied by an adult.
