Shiloh Road might be limited to single-lane travel this week

Hampstead has announced that Shiloh Road east of Route 30 and west of Black Rock Road might be limited to single-lane travel from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. this week.

The road might be closed tomorrow and Friday. A detour route will be posted if it is closed. Local residents are advised to use East Mott Avenue between Route 30 and Black Rock Road as an alternate route.

The contractor, L.R. Hollman, will be responsible for traffic control.

Market to offer `Peter Pan' and Latin music show

Spring Meadow Farms produce market is featuring multiethnic performing arts programs this summer for families.

At 8 p.m. today, Cantare, three women from Brazil, Puerto Rico and Argentina, will present Fiesta, which explores the origins of music in Latin America from native instruments such as the turtle shell, to guitars introduced by the Spanish, and the addition of drums from Africa. Their interactive performance features songs in Spanish and Portuguese. The show will be followed by a small fireworks display.

At 8 p.m. Sunday, Peter Pan will be performed in light effects by the Box of Light Theater of Bloomsburg, Pa. This troupe projects computer animation on an 8-foot-by-10-foot screen in addition to multimedia and theatrics.

The performance of Peter Pan coincides with the farm market's annual peach festival with peach desserts and a peach dessert contest.

Tickets are $7 in advance, $8.50 at the door, or $6 each for groups of 10 or more. Performances will be canceled if it rains.

Spring Meadow Farms is south of Hampstead on Route 30.

River Valley Ranch schedules summer concerts

The summer concert series at River Valley Ranch continues for two weeks.

Saturday, Nichole Nordeman, the 2001 Dove Award winner for Female Vocalist of the Year, will appear in a solo concert. Tickets are $18 and $15.

On Aug. 17, the five-member worship band, SonicFlood, will perform an "unplugged" concert. Tickets are $20 and $17.

Concerts begin at 7 p.m. at the Old Meeting House. Activities before the concerts include outdoor climbing, horseback riding and old Western ranch activities. Also featured is a free rodeo at 4 p.m. Saturdays.

River Valley Ranch is at 4443 Grave Run Road, between Falls Road and Middletown Road.

Fire company's carnival to start Monday evening

Hampstead Volunteer Fire Company will hold its annual firemen's carnival Monday through Aug. 17 on the firehouse grounds at 1341 N. Main St.

Rides, games and food booths will open at 7 p.m. daily. Platters will be served in the hall at 6 p.m. Aug. 14 through Aug. 17. A firemen's parade will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 14. Discounted ride nights are Monday, Tuesday, Aug. 15 and 16.

A shuttle bus will be available Aug. 14-17 from North Carroll High School.

Musical entertainment will include: Monday, Bob Plunkert & Real Country; Tuesday, Roll the Dice; Aug. 14, Just Us Band; Aug. 15, Ashley Marie & Family; Aug. 16, the Shades; Aug. 17, Bootleg Band.

Raffle drawings for $4,000 will be held Aug. 17 before closing.

This is the last Carroll County firemen's carnival of the season.

Shiloh Methodist church will hold concert Sunday

Shiloh United Methodist Church of Hampstead will hold a Christian music concert with Mike Sharp at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Sharp, a guitarist and a vocalist, performs original songs with a jazz/folk sound, accompanied by video.

Weather permitting, the concert will be held outside on the church grounds, 3100 Shiloh Road. Visitors should take seating. An offering will be taken.

Alcohol, drugs or tobacco are not allowed.

Library plans pizza event, story time, animal show

North Carroll branch library, 2255 Hanover Pike, Greenmount, will offer:

"Hampstead Pizza Hut Library Fund-raiser" from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Hampstead Pizza Hut on Route 30. Coupons are available from the library for the evening. The library will earn 20 percent of net sales that evening.

"Year Round Family Story Time" for all ages (age 3 and younger must be with an adult) at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday and at 10 a.m. every Thursday. Stories, songs and activities are featured.

A book discussion group for ages 7 to 12 at 6:45 p.m. Monday. Youths should read any book by Avi and be prepared to present it to the group. Registration is required.

"How Animals Travel" for all ages at 10 a.m. Monday. Piney Run Park naturalist Elaine Sweitzer and her animal friends will show how animals travel.

"Introduction to the Internet" for adults at 7 p.m. Aug. 15.
