A motorcyclist was killed and three people were injured last night when two motorcycles and a car collided on South Rolling Road in Catonsville, police said.

It was one of two fatal motorcycle accidents last night in the metropolitan area, the second occurring on Baltimore-Washington Parkway near the Patapsco River in Anne Arundel County.

In Catonsville, four motorcyclists, all men in their 20s, were speeding north on South Rolling Road when a Volkswagen Jetta pulled onto the road from Newburg Avenue about 7:30 p.m., said Baltimore County police Sgt. Robert Czawlytko.

Two motorcyclists struck the car, and both riders were thrown from their bikes. One was pronounced dead at the scene. The second was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center. A third - thrown as he skidded to avoid the collision - and the driver of the car were taken to St. Agnes HealthCare, police said. The fourth motorcyclist was not hurt.

Motorcycle skid marks were visible for about 100 feet leading to the intersection.

The second crash occurred about 7:10 p.m. on the parkway, a short distance south of the Harbor Tunnel Thruway, where a motorcyclist traveling north with several other bikers lost control and hit a guardrail, said state police Sgt. Eric Claxton.

The 31-year-old victim, whose name was not released, was dead at the scene. Speed appeared to be a factor in the crash, Claxton said.
