Camp update

August 01, 2002|By Brent Jones

Thumbs up: Receiver Ron Johnson has made at least one diving catch each practice. Yesterday morning, he made two and added a red-zone touchdown. Safety Will Demps had a couple of impressive stops, including one on a blitz behind the line of scrimmage.

Thumbs down: Linebacker Shannon Taylor stripped Jamal Lewis of the ball. It was the second time Lewis has fumbled this training camp, and he is yet to take a real hit. Neither Chris Redman nor Jeff Blake produced a touchdown in their respective two-minute quarterback drills.

Quotable: "Does it occur to you that maybe you should hit somebody?" Ravens coach Brian Billick to offensive lineman Ken Farrar after a missed block during the morning practice.

Injuries: Linebacker Peter Boulware (ankle) and end Michael McCrary (knee) did not practice and are on the physically unable to perform list. Running back Chester Taylor (leg) did not practice and is listed as day-to-day. Tight end Todd Heap (triceps) was held out of most drills and may not practice today.

Today's schedule:Full-squad practice from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. Special teams' practice from 3 to 4 p.m.

Countdown to season opener: 38 days.
