August 01, 2002

A third Howard County man was arrested yesterday in carjackings early Tuesday at Cranberry Square Shopping Center in Westminster, authorities said. Police are seeking two more suspects.

Police said Barrington D. Sweeney, 19, of Ellicott City was charged yesterday with conspiracy to commit two counts of armed carjacking, two counts of taking a motor vehicle, two counts of first-degree assault, use of a handgun during a crime and two counts of reckless endangerment.

Two vehicles were stolen from their owners at gunpoint on the center's parking lot just after midnight. The owners were not harmed, and the suspects fled west on Route 140. Two suspects were arrested shortly afterward.
