Two Howard County men were in police custody last night in early-morning carjackings at Cranberry Square Shopping Center in Westminster, authorities said. Police were seeking three others.

Two vehicles - a Mercury Sable and Honda Civic - were stolen from their owners at gunpoint on the parking lot shortly after midnight, Westminster police said. The owners were not harmed, police said.

Two men fled east on Route 140. One jumped out of the Mercury Sable at Routes 140 and 97. He later surrendered to police. The other was apprehended after leading police on a chase to Interstate 695 and Security Boulevard, authorities said.

Charges were pending against a 26-year-old Ellicott City man. Danny Otero Johnson, 19, of Ellicott City was charged with possession of a motor vehicle by threat of force, first-degree assault, theft, use of a handgun during a felony, three counts of second-degree assault and other charges.

The Honda was recovered at a gas station at Route 140 and Sandymount Road.
