Profile: Chester Taylor

July 27, 2002

Position: Running back

College: Toledo

Who he is: Taylor was the Ravens' eighth pick, and the 207th overall selection (sixth round), in the 2002 NFL draft. He rushed for 1,492 yards and 20 touchdowns as a senior, good enough to finish as the seventh-leading rusher in the nation.

What he will do in camp: Taylor is one of the Ravens' three main running backs, along with incumbent starter Jamal Lewis and free-agent pickup Tellis Redmon. By working hard in the preseason, Taylor could compete with Redmon for the backup job and spur Lewis to train a little harder.

Who he wanted to be: "I always loved Barry Sanders. He always was spectacular every time he played. I also respected Walter Payton a lot. They were both great players."

Favorite football moment: "Last year when we won the MAC championship and the [Motor City] bowl all in the same year. I had to wait four years, but we finally did it my last year. That was a perfect year for me."
