`Jest4Success' will be discussed at Taneytown panel's meeting

Taneytown Economic Development Commission will hold its monthly business breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Aug. 2 at Thunderhead Bowling Centre at Routes 140 and 832.

Roz Trieber from Humor and Health Associates will discuss "Jest4Success."

The cost for breakfast is $5.50, payable at the meeting. Reservations are required by Wednesday at 410-751-1100.

Valley Lions Club installs new officers

Valley Lions Club of Pleasant Valley recently installed new officers for 2002-2003.

Past District Gov. Andrew J. DeMario, Sr. installed the new officers: George Butler, president; Dave McDonald, first vice president; Ray Jones, second vice president; Bob Humbert, secretary; Eugene Brewer, treasurer; Jim Handley, tail twister; Jim Swartzbaugh, lion tamer; Dick Hosfield and Bobbie Davis, one-year directors; Tom Kinser and Chris Conover, two-year directors; Roy Davis, immediate past president and membership chairman.

The club also inducted two new members: Ted Reichart, sponsored by Handley; and Pastor Jim Mearns of St. Matthew's United Church of Christ, sponsored by Humbert.

Petty Officer Gerald takes part in Guam project

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Andre Gerald Jr. recently participated in a community relations project in Guam while deployed to the Western Pacific aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, based in Yokosuka, Japan.

Volunteers from the ship's crew helped beautify the grounds at a Guam Roman Catholic monastery and for the Camelite Sisters of Guam.

Gerald is a 1999 graduate of Francis Scott Key High School.

Taneytown library to present crafts, game

The Taneytown library branch, 10 Grand Drive, will offer:

Drop-in Crafts, for all ages (children age 3 and younger must be with an adult), 10 a.m. to noon, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.

"Year-round Family Story Time," for all ages (age 3 and younger with an adult), 11 a.m. Tuesday, and 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, with the theme Things We Wear.

"Game Night," for ages 11 to 17, 7 p.m. Wednesday. Youths will learn the ancient game of Mancala. Those who beat the librarian will win chocolate.

"Live and In Person - The Berenstain Bears' Brother Bear," for all ages (age 3 and younger with an adult), 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Aug. 1. Cameras are welcome.
