Ravens owner suffers `extremely mild stroke'

July 23, 2002|By Jamison Hensley

Ravens owner Art Modell is expected to be released today from Johns Hopkins Hospital after being treated for an "extremely mild stroke," his son, David, said last night.

Modell, 77, was admitted to Johns Hopkins on Sunday night.

"He's in great shape," David said. "He's doing wonderful and is super in every way, knock on wood."

It's the second time in three months that the Ravens' owner has been hospitalized for an illness. In April, he suffered a mild heart attack at his California vacation home.

The Ravens will begin training camp on Friday, marking Modell's 42nd year as an NFL owner.
