Health care found lacking for Hispanics and Latinos

Hispanic and Latino residents of Anne Arundel County are less likely to seek preventive health screenings such as mammograms and colonoscopies than other residents, according to a recent survey by the Office of Minority Health.

The survey results, which were released during a public meeting last night, also show that a significant number of Hispanics and Latinos have a difficult time communicating with health care providers. A related concern is that 48 percent of survey participants said they could not afford to seek medical care regularly because of the high cost.

The survey was conducted as part of an initiative to address the health care needs of the county's minority populations. Information: Ronna Gotthainer, 410-222-7002.
