Catherine S. Bartell, 87, BGE executive secretary

Catherine S. Bartell, a retired Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. executive secretary who was a world traveler, died of heart failure Saturday at Pickersgill Retirement Community in Towson. She was 87.

A longtime resident of Towson's Campus Hills section, the former Catherine Simpson was born in Baltimore and raised in Cedarcroft. She was a graduate of Towson High School and attended the Johns Hopkins University.

She began her career at BGE in 1934 and at her retirement in 1980 was an executive secretary.

In 1953, she married Robert Bartell, who died in 1976.

Mrs. Bartell's travels ranged from trips on the Queen Elizabeth II to the Orient Express, as well as to England, France and Egypt. She was also an avid photographer and gardener.

Mrs. Bartell was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Johns Hopkins Club and the Woman's Club of Roland Park.

Services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at Mitchell-Wiedefeld Funeral Home, 6500 York Road, Rodgers Forge.

She had no survivors.
