COLA signs deal with American Psych Systems

COLA, a Columbia-based national health care accreditation organization, recently signed a contract with APS Healthcare Bethesda Inc. to conduct behavioral health review services, including reviews of facilities and medical records kept by psychiatrists and behavioral health specialists within American Psych Systems' provider network.

COLA will be responsible for using APS criteria to assess performance at 300 or more sites over a large area. The nonprofit, physician-directed organization will also provide on-site education.

Name change creates XY Professionals

The Young Professionals Group has announced its new name: XY Professionals, to project a professional image in the business community.

The group, a networking, education and community service organization for professionals, ages 21 to 40, meets on the second Wednesday of each month in Howard County and surrounding areas. The group's September meeting will be held on the third Wednesday of the month.

Sheriff's office helps Special Olympics effort

Members of the Howard County Sheriff's Office and the Howard County Department of Corrections teamed up with the Red Lobster restaurant in Columbia to benefit Special Olympics of Maryland this spring.

The program, called "Cops & Lobsters," raised money for Special Olympics by having county employees wait tables at the restaurant and donate tips.

Nearly $2,000 was raised. Plans are under way to repeat the event next year.

Central library offers `Job Search Tools'

The Howard County Central Library, 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia, will offer "Job Search Tools at the Library," a program on the library's print and online resources, at 7 p.m. Aug. 14.

Registration, which begins Aug. 1, is required.
