Hiker finds body of Carroll man by reservoir

The body of a Finksburg man missing since Friday was found yesterday morning by a hiker in a dense patch of woods near the Liberty Reservoir in Carroll County.

The police found no signs of injury on the body of Craig M. Barron, 53, and were executing search warrants and questioning acquaintances last night in hopes of determining how he died. Friends have told police that Barron had a serious medical condition that required medication and that made physical exertion difficult.

A state trooper found Barron's car at 12:30 a.m. yesterday on Deer Park Road. The car was parked beside woods around the reservoir, near the Baltimore County line. Troopers and body-sniffing dogs began a search, but it was a hiker who found Barron's body at 10:30 a.m. in thick woods several hundred feet south of Deer Park Road.

Authorities took the body to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

Barron's housemate, who lived with him in the 2500 block of Lawndale Road, and a friend reported him missing at 7:30 p.m. Friday, after trying for more than a day to reach him on his cell phone. The last time anyone is believed to have seen Barron was when he left work at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
