Dance classes: The Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts will offer "Roots and Rhythm," a class in styles of progressive dance, including tap dance and clogging, from 10 a.m. to noon today for children ages 7 to 12. A version of the class for ages 13 to 20 will cover Appalachian flatfooting, tap, clogging, step dance, the South African gumboot dance and hamboning. 410-269-1087.

Breakfast: Patrick Gonzales, pollster for Gonzales-Arscott Research, will speak at the Almost 7:30 Friday Morning Democratic Breakfast from 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m. at O'Brien's Restaurant, 113 Main St., Annapolis. Cost for the breakfast is $3.50. 410-757-1678.

Dancing: Dance classes are being offered from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. starting today at the Community Center, 623 Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd., Severna Park. The cost is $48 a person for six weeks. Classes are being taught in rumba and disco hustle. 301-262-8010.

Play: The Chesapeake Center for the Creative Arts will present Amanda's Line by award-winning playwright Kathleen Barber. The show will be performed at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday. Also at 8 p.m. July 26 and July 27. Tickets are $12 for arts center members, $15 for nonmembers. Meadows program: Kinder Farm Park will present a "Meadow Land" program at 5 p.m. at 1001 Kinder Farm Park Road in Millersville. Participants will travel through the meadows and old field habitat areas in search of butterflies, dragonflies and other insects. 410-222-6115.

Job hunting: Family Support Center, 7500 Ritchie Highway, offers a jobs program from 9 a.m. to noon on the third Friday of each month. Participants can meet with employers at 8:30 a.m. 410-421-8478.

Social club: The Young Anne Arundel Professionals will meet at 7 p.m. at Romilos, 478 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park, for fun in an upbeat atmosphere. At 8:30 a.m. tomorrow, enjoy breakfast and socializing at the Amish Market in Annapolis. Information: 410-757-4922.

Tomorrow

Junior track: The Annapolis Striders' Junior Striders Summer Track Series continues tomorrow, and Aug. 24 and Sept. 21 at Weems-Whelan Field (Bates Track) off Spa Road, behind the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts. Registration begins at 4 p.m. and races start at 4:30 p.m. The races are for children ages 2 to 12. Participants will receive ribbons. Striders T-shirts will be given to those who attend three or more meets. 410-533-5689.

Reptile tour: Park rangers David DeVault and Adam Smith will lead a reptile tour at 6 p.m. at the Earleigh Heights Ranger Station. Participants will see snakes, lizards and turtles. Children younger than age 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required. 410- 222-6244.

Sunday

Family fun day: The Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks is sponsoring its fifth annual Family Fun Day from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Mayo Beach Park on the South River. This event will feature swimming, pony rides, Moon Bounce, carnival games, music, crafts, exhibits, face painting and demonstrations. Tickets are $7 per car in advance or $10 per car at gate. Silent auction: The public is invited to participate in a silent auction sponsored by Red Robin Gourmet Burgers Inc. A Tiki log painted by local celebrities will be auctioned at 8 p.m. at Westfield Shoppingtown (Annapolis Mall).

Bunnies and bug fun: Bunny fun for tots will be offered by Kinder Farm Park at 2 p.m. at the park, 1001 Kinder Farm Park Road, Millersville. Learn about rabbits and their habitat. Feature story for this program is: "The Bunny Book" by Richard Scarry. Materials fee is $2. This event is for children ages 3 to 5. Space is limited. Also being offered is a "Bugs Night Out" program at 8:15 p.m. Moths, beetles, crickets, and other nocturnal creatures will be discussed during a walk about the park. Captains meeting: Chesapeake Area Professional Captains Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Sheraton Barcelo Hotel across from Westfield Shoppingtown (Annapolis Mall). The topic will be "Rules of the Road." 410-267- 7651.

Dance lessons: The Historic Annapolis Foundation presents Colonial Dance Lessons from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the William Paca House and Garden, 186 Prince George St. in Annapolis.
