Hanover lender joins mortgage cooperative

Baltimore American Mortgage Corp., based in Hanover, has joined Lenders One Mortgage Cooperative, a national alliance of independent mortgage companies.

Lenders One is the nation's first fully managed mortgage cooperative. The St. Louis-based cooperative now has 27 member companies, originating $15 billion a year in single-family mortgage loans.

"The recent consolidation and mega-mergers in the mortgage industry have threatened the existence of many independent mortgage companies," said Scott Stern, president and founder of Lenders One.

"By banding together, our member companies are able to run more efficiently, productively and profitably, allowing them to compete in what's become a highly aggressive market."
