Bon Secours center offers guided six-day holistic retreat

Bon Secours Spiritual Center, an extension of the ministry of the Sisters of Bon Secours, will offer a six-day guided retreat, "Women for the 21st Century: Contemplative, Holistic, Creative," with Elizabeth Sweeney, from 5 p.m. July 21 to 11 a.m. July 27. A sister of St. Joseph, Sweeney is director of Kairos in Wilmington, Del., a retreat center for holistic spirituality.

Story, ritual, music, poetry and holistic practice will be used to demonstrate how one's deepest desires can lead to the mystery within.

The cost is $285, including meals. Registration is required by Sunday.

A six-day retreat, "Evolutionary Faith: Rediscovering God in Our Great Story," will be offered from 5 p.m. Sunday to 11 a.m. July 20 at the center.

The retreat will focus on contemporary religious insights into the concept of evolution and implications for theology and spirituality.

It will be led by Diarmuid O'Murchu, a priest and social psychologist with the Sacred Heart Missionary Congregation, who spends nine months each year counseling the homeless and refugees in London.

The cost is $325, including room and board; $275 for commuters, including meals. Registration is required. Bon Secours Spiritual Center is on 313 acres of woodland in Marriottsville.

Elkridge church to install its new pastor Sunday

After a series of pre-installation revivals, Elkridge Christian Community Church will hold installation services for its pastor-elect, the Rev. Sean R. Russell, at 6 p.m. Sunday at Howard High School, 8700 Old Annapolis Road, Ellicott City.

Open House Shabbat scheduled in Columbia

Columbia Jewish Congregation will hold an Open House Shabbat at 8 p.m. July 19 in Room 100 of the Meeting House, 5885 Robert Oliver Place.

The Friday evening Shabbat service will be explained as the service proceeds. Questions will be encouraged. Jews and non-Jews are welcome.

Brunches for new and prospective members will be Aug. 4 and 18.

Support group planned for adult caregivers

Jewish Family Services offers a caregiver support group for adults caring for, or concerned about, an aging relative. The group meets from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the first Monday of each month (except next month) at the Jewish Federation of Howard County Conference Center, Suite 115, 8950 Route 108, Ellicott City.

There is no fee, but donations are accepted. Drivers are needed to take senior citizens to or from medical appointments.

Bible camp to take journalistic approach

Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of Columbia, 9808 Davidge Drive, will hold a free Bible camp, "Good News Daily," from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 22-26 in the Meeting Room, 6330 Trotter Road.

Children entering kindergarten through fifth grade are welcome. "Good News Daily" will focus on journalistic activities in which the children will report on stories from the Bible. Headlines during the week will include "Sea Splits in Two!" and other themes. Games, crafts, songs and a snack each day are planned.
