Shepherd's Staff to hold Back-to-School program

The Shepherd's Staff, a faith-based charitable organization in Westminster, will hold its Back-to-School program this summer for needy children.

Since 1997, the program has provided the children of "working poor" families with needed clothes, school supplies and haircuts.

A "clothing shed" offers gently used clothes for children. Particularly needed are clothes for children in kindergarten through middle school. The school store has necessary school supplies and backpacks for children in all grades.

The Shepherd's Staff started a "Ten Dollars Paves the Way for Back-to-School Day" program two years ago to raise money for shoes and backpacks for needy students. All donations to Shepherd's Staff are tax-deductible.

Families that would like to participate in Back-to-School Day should register between July 22 and Aug. 2. Parents need to provide their child's Social Security number and Carroll County school location. After filling out a registration form, they will be given a date to return to Shepherd's Staff for distribution of items.

The Shepherd's Staff is at 30 Carroll St., Westminster. Donations may be dropped off there or at the TownMall of Westminster customer service or Carrolltown Center in front of Kmart.
