Severn Lutheran church sponsors summer teen events

"Summer's Cool, Jesus Rules," a five-week ministry event for middle and high school-aged youths, will run from Thursday to Aug. 8 at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2622 Annapolis Road, in Severn.

Programs include:

Thursday -- "What Color Is My Rainbow?" 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., painting the Sunday school walls.

July 18 -- Servant Ministry Trip, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., sorting food at the Anne Arundel Food Bank.

July 25 -- Bowie Baysox Game, 5:30 p.m. to about 10 p.m. Tickets are $10 each.

Aug. 1 -- Event to be planned, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Aug. 8 -- Around the World Global Mission Party, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Severna Park Women's Aglow schedules speaker

The Severna Park Women's Aglow July Outreach Meeting will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 17 at the Youth Center, 623 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd., Severna Park.

Susan Scheder will be the speaker. She will address real-life issues and stress healing wounds and developing a closer relationship with God. Scheder has a degree in theology and is a graduate of the Word of Faith Bible Institute. She has served as one of the assistant chaplains of the Harford County Detention Center and was ordained in the Five-Fold Ministry in 1998. She has served as an associate pastor at Baltimore Christian Center since then.

River expedition: Galilee Lutheran Church will hold its Vacation Bible School July 15 to July 19 at the church, 4652 Mountain Road, Pasadena. This year's program is SonCanyon River Adventure, featuring a river expedition theme for potty-trained preschoolers through sixth-graders. At SonCanyon, children will discover skills for life from the book of Proverbs, including following God's instructions, choosing friends wisely, making peace, showing respect and similar themes. Classes begin at 9 a.m. Parents are invited to visit at 11:40 a.m. during the closing activities. At the conclusion of the week, families are invited to watch the children sing and worship at 10:45 a.m. July 21. A picnic will be held after the service. Cost is $10 per child and $25 for family of three or more children. Cost includes crafts, snacks, iron-on transfers and a cassette containing the songs the children will learn. Biblical cruise: "Amazon Adventure," a Vacation Bible School for children ages 4 to 12, will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 22-26 at Anchor Baptist Church, 320 W. Pasadena Road. Children will experience a fictional cruise down the Amazon River. The program is free; however, each evening will feature contests in which money will be collected for projects. 410-647-9614.

Neil Simon play: The Sisterhood of Congregation Kneseth Israel is sponsoring a trip to see Promises, Promises, a play by Neil Simon, at 8 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre. Dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. Prices are $10 for the show and $16 for dinner and show. Transportation from Kneseth Israel is $5.
