Mary Frieda Allen, 86, cafe owner, nurse's

Mary Frieda Allen, who ran a cafe in South Baltimore for 25 years, died Thursday of complications from a stroke at Tandem Health Care in Port Charlotte, Fla. She was 86.

Born and raised in Locust Point, Mary Magyar married Marcellus W. Allen in 1935. The couple owned and operated the Lardall Cafe in South Baltimore for 25 years, before moving to Port Charlotte in 1972.

In Port Charlotte, Mrs. Allen trained as a nurse's aide and worked at a hospital. After the death of her husband in 1998, she moved to the Royal Palm Retirement Center in Port Charlotte.

Mrs. Allen is survived by her son, Thomas W. Allen of Ocean City; her brother, Nickolaus Magyar of Pasadena; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Another son, Marcellus W. Allen, died before her.
