Woods, wetlands in Pasadena placed under protection

A Pasadena property that includes two environmentally sensitive bogs will be permanently preserved under the county's Program Open Space.

Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens signed a conservation easement for the 390-acre Looper property Friday, said spokesman Matt Diehl. The property is mostly woodlands.

The county bought the property for $4.9 million, of which $2.3 million was covered by a federal grant.

Shubnell appointed to development board

Larry Shubnell, an Annapolis resident and former finance executive, has been named to the board of directors of Anne Arundel County Economic Development Corp.

Shubnell was appointed by County Executive Janet S. Owens to complete the term of Konrad M. Wayson, who resigned from the board to serve on the county Board of Education. Shubnell's term expires Jan. 1.

Shubnell served as vice president and managing director for public finance activities at Legg Mason Wood Walker Inc. from 1983 until his retirement last year. He also has served as a financial adviser to Annapolis and Baltimore County. Other clients include Miami and the Alaska Legislature.

Shubnell also is a member of the Governor's Council on Management and Productivity.
