After five seasons with one state title (1999), three region titles, two county titles and $150,000 in college scholarships awarded his players, Mike Bellotte will no longer coach the Severna Park boys lacrosse team.

In essence, not being a county teacher cost Bellotte, who is a mortgage banker and considered an emergency coach until a teacher/ coach can be found.

Veteran teacher/coach Brien McMurray, who has sought the job every year Bellotte has coached and filed grievances to get it, is the new Falcons boys coach.

"I shall miss coaching the young men who remain at Severna Park, " Bellotte said in a prepared statement.

Bellotte was told yesterday at a meeting with Severna Park officials.

"We have a candidate who was accepted, certified and qualified to take the job this year, and I erred in not hiring him," said Severna Park principal Will Myers, who allowed Bellotte to return.
