Rescue 5 from New York City, the fire company that lost 11 firefighters in the attack Sept. 11 on the World Trade Center, will appear at the Maryland Antique Fire Apparatus Muster in Westminster next month.

In partnership with the Chesapeake Fire Apparatus Association, the muster will be held Saturday, rain or shine. This marks the first time the annual event has been held at the Carroll County Farm Museum. Gates will open at 8:30 a.m. Rollback admission price is $1.50 per person; children age 6 and younger will be admitted free with a paying adult.

Activities will begin with a parade of equipment through Westminster at 10 a.m. The parade route will be from Monroe Street, down Pennsylvania Avenue to Main Street to Center Street to the Farm Museum.

A ceremony will be held at noon with five officers from Rescue 5 in dress uniform participating. The Rev. Fred Eckhardt will offer a prayer, followed by the reading of a proclamation by the county commissioners to honor firefighters nationwide. Everyone will be invited to sing "God Bless America."

Tribute Trees will be on display with the names of the fallen heroes of Sept. 11.

Other activities will include water display demonstrations of pumpers drawing from the pond (weather permitting); competitions such as pumping and hose reel races; children's games; and a Fire Prevention Safety House. There will be a flea market of fire service items from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and food vendors with various foods for sale.

A 55-minute film on the history of firefighters titled Spirit of the American Volunteer will be shown in the Reception Barn at 12:45 p.m. Awards for the parade will be presented at 3:30 p.m.

Beginning at 10 a.m., the farmhouse will be open for tours; the Living History Center, exhibit buildings, and the General Store will be open. Artisans will be demonstrating old-time skills.
