Man hurt as blasts rip through home

May 26, 2002

A pair of explosions tore through a house in Perry Hall last night, burning a man who lives there and rattling neighbors on the quiet cul-de-sac of duplexes.

Chuck Albrecht, who lives at the house in the 8500 block of Rhuddlan Road, suffered first- and second-degree burns on his face and chest and was taken to the University of Maryland Medical Center. He is expected to survive, fire officials said.

The blasts went off a few minutes apart about 6:30 p.m., sending flames from the first- and second-story windows.

Albrecht had been building a room for his teen-age son in the basement, and fire officials think the explosions were set off when a nail gun he was using accidentally discharged into a propane tank.
