Overlea, baseball

The senior catcher had two home runs among his three hits last week, knocked in eight runs, scored five runs and stole two bases to lead the Falcons (14-4-1) to the Class 2A North Region baseball title.

White had a three-run home run in a 16-1 rout of Lansdowne. His RBI in an 8-7 win over Eastern Tech tied the game at 7. And in a 3-2 regional championship win over Towson, White hit the game-winning, bases-empty home run, threw out a runner at third base for the final out of the fifth inning, and threw out another runner at second in the final inning.

Overlea played Southern of Anne Arundel in the state semifinals last night.

GIRLS

Brooke Richards

Broadneck, lacrosse

With nine goals and 11 assists last week, the senior midfielder led the No. 5 Bruins to their first appearance in the state girls lacrosse tournament since 1990.

In the Class 4A-3A East regional final, she scored one goal and assisted on the game-winner in a 4-3 victory over then-No. 5 Severna Park, the two-time defending state champion. Richards also had three goals and five assists in a 14-6 win over Arundel in the regional semifinal and five goals and five assists in an 18-9 win over Walt Whitman in Saturday's state semifinal.

Richards, who will play lacrosse for Maryland next season, has 55 goals and 48 assists for the season.
