Police find man fatally stabbed in apartment

An unidentified man was found fatally stabbed in an apartment in West Baltimore early yesterday, putting the city's homicide toll at 99 for the year.

Police said they responded to the apartment in the 500 block of Dolphin St. about 2 a.m. after neighbors complained of odors coming from the dwelling. Officers found the body lying in a pool of blood.

The discovery came after a bloody weekend in which six people were killed, pushing the homicide toll even with the same period last year.

Mayor Martin O'Malley has pledged to reduce homicides to 175 this year.

Police yesterday also said a 17-year-old boy who was shot Thursday in East Baltimore died Friday from his injuries.

The boy, Corey Allen Mason of the 2000 block of Robb St., was walking in the 1900 block of Aisquith St. with his cousin about 2:30 p.m. when a man wearing a ski mask approached them, police said.

The masked man opened fire with a handgun, police said. Mason, who suffered wounds to his head and upper left torso, was pronounced dead late Friday afternoon. police said.
