Hospital joins study of ways to prevent surgical infections

North Arundel Hospital was recently selected to participate in the Surgical Infection Prevention Collaborative, a health care quality improvement project organized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. North Arundel is the only hospital in Maryland to be a part of this national study.

The study will focus on implementing practices to prevent surgical infection. Participation in this study will allow the hospital to track surgical patients for one year after their surgery to determine the effectiveness of new performance-improvement and infection-prevention standards.

The Surgical Infection Prevention Collaborative will collect data from 53 hospitals across the country. The study will end in April.
