Fort Meade thrift shop to close its drop-off area for donations

May 21, 2002

The Post Thrift Shop at Fort Meade says it is discontinuing its policy of providing a convenient area to drop off donations when the shop is closed.

A storage shed had been placed at the rear of the building for that purpose, but over time the shed and the surrounding area evolved into a trash dumping area.

Because of the time required to sort the usable items from the trash, and health and safety concerns during the handling of large appliances, furniture, chemicals and flammables that are dumped, it has been decided to discontinue the practice.

People are asked to bring all donated items inside through the front entrance during operating hours.

Shop hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays.
