Pimlico events force street closures, changes

Black-Eyed Susan Day, Preakness to alter traffic tomorrow, Saturday

The city Office of Transportation and Maryland Jockey Club have announced street closings and temporary changes in traffic patterns aimed at minimizing congestion as thousands of people converge on Pimlico Race Course for tomorrow's Black-Eyed Susan Day and Saturday's 127th running of the Preakness Stakes.

From 10 p.m. today through 8 p.m. Saturday:

Rogers Avenue will be one-way westbound from Woodcrest Avenue to Park Heights Avenue.

Winner Avenue will be one-way northbound from Hayward Avenue to Rogers.

Manhattan Avenue will be one-way eastbound from Winner to Pimlico Road.

Whitney Avenue will be one-way westbound from Pimlico to Key Avenue.

Sulgrave Avenue will be one-way westbound from Stuart Avenue to Highgate Avenue.

Rockwood Avenue will be one-way eastbound from Key to Berkeley Avenue.

Simmonds Avenue will be one-way southbound from Rockwood to Manhattan.

Woodcrest Avenue will be one-way northbound from Northern Parkway to Rockwood.

Merville Avenue will be one-way southbound from Glen Avenue to Northern Parkway.

Berkeley will be one-way northbound from Whitney to Glen.

Stuart will be one-way northbound from Northern Parkway to Sulgrave.

Rusk Avenue will be one-way southbound from Whitney to Northern Parkway.

From 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Hayward Avenue will be one-way eastbound from Park Heights to Winner avenues.

From 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Pimlico Road will be one-way northbound from Northern Parkway to Cross County Boulevard, and Winner will be one-way northbound from Rogers Avenue to Northern Parkway.

Also, Cylburn Avenue from Northern Parkway to Greenspring Avenue and the southbound Jones Falls Expressway exit ramp to eastbound Northern Parkway will be closed from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

From 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, westbound Northern Parkway from Falls Road to the racetrack, and the southbound Jones Falls Expressway exit ramp to westbound Northern Parkway will be closed.

Drivers on the expressway will be directed to the Cold Spring Lane exits. To minimize inconvenience to horsemen and maintain flow, a one-way entrance for automobile traffic to the Hayward Stable area will be behind Barn E at Winner and Rogers avenues from 12:01 a.m. tomorrow through 9 p.m. Saturday.
