Steve Madsen, from Lakewood Country Club, and Zoran Zorkic, a part-time Buy.Com tour player from Humble, Texas, each birdied the first hole at Eagle's Nest yesterday morning to earn the last available places in the U.S. Open sectional qualifying event June 3 at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville.

When play was suspended in Monday's rain-delayed local qualifier, in which 126 players were seeking nine spots at Woodmont, the regular round had been completed. Seven players, led by Shane Bertsch's 65, were at 69 or better, and six players were tied at 2-under-par 70.

After Madsen and Zorkic had made their decisive putts at the 451-yard first playoff hole, it took just one more to sort out the alternate positions for the remaining players.
