New positions

Austria and Grafov join Benelogic LLC

Benelogic LLC announced the appointments of Allan Austria as customer service representative and Andrey Grafov as an engineer for the Timonium-based provider of benefits industry software applications and services.

Austria, previously with Prime Foods as an administrative assistant, is a graduate of American University. Grafov, a physics and mathematics graduate of Nizhny Novgorod State University in Russia, is a former programmer and analyst with RGII Technologies Inc.

Pollard named VP at Merrill Lynch

Merrill Lynch announced that Patrick Pollard was named a vice president and resident manager and is assigned to its Bel Air office. A Harford County native, the Military Academy graduate is active with Rotary International and the Emmerton Recreation Council and serves in the vestry of the Holy Trinity Church.

Insurance

Ficca named CFO at Baltimore Life

Baltimore Life Cos. appointed David Ficca as chief financial officer. Before joining the 120-year-old Baltimore-based insurer, he was a partner in PricewaterhouseCooper's insurance industry group in Washington. He is a certified public accountant and Georgetown University graduate, where he is also an adjunct professor. He is on the board of Cure Autism Now.

Health care

Erickson Retirement promotes Mel Tansill

Erickson Retirement Communities promoted Mel Tansill to senior director, public affairs for its national network. The Catonsville resident will be responsible for managing strategic media relations programs, special projects and corporate communications. He is a former director of media and community relations for United Way of Central Maryland. A graduate of and an adjunct professor at the University of Baltimore, he also is a poet and is active in the Baltimore Writers Alliance, Health Charities of Maryland and the Baltimore Museum of Industry.
