Builders group plans session on moisture management, mold

The Home Builders Association of Maryland will hold a program about mold for building industry professionals from 9 a.m. to noon May 30 at Jillian's at Arundel Mills mall. Registration will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Local and regional examples will be discussed to suggest solutions to problems faced by builders, contractors and building supply companies. Guidance on legal issues related to mold and moisture management also will be offered.

The cost is $55 for association members; $95 for nonmembers.

Nixon's Farm offers murder-mystery game

Nixon's Farm in West Friendship is offering "Murder at Nixon's Farm," a dinner buffet or cocktail party accompanied by a role-playing murder-mystery game for individuals and business groups in the farm's renovated ballroom.

Two business workshops to be offered tomorrow

The Howard County Economic Development Authority's Business Resource Center and F.M. Gaston Associates will sponsor a proposal-development workshop from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Center for Business and Technology Development, 9250 Bendix Road North, Columbia. The cost is $45.

Another workshop, "The First Steps to Starting Your Own Business," will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the same place. The cost is $25.

Golf:

Howard County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual golf tournament, starting at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow at Waverly Woods Golf Course in Marriottsville. Individuals and teams are welcome to register. A morning round costs $125 a golfer; an afternoon session costs $175. 410-730-4111.

Open house:

The Ellicott City chapter of the Leads Club will hold an open house for networking and lunch from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bob Evans Restaurant, Route 100 and Executive Park Drive, Ellicott City. Admission and lunch are free. Zoe Cohen, 410-740-4494.

Apply for leadership:

Leadership Howard County is accepting applications for its 2002-2003 class, which begins in September. Applications must be submitted by June 7. Monthly training sessions focus on government, education, economic development and health and human services. Participants must commit about one day a month for 10 months. The cost is $3,600.
