Garden event Thursday to feature game of croquet

Historic Annapolis Foundation invites the public to join a game of croquet during Splendor in the Garden at 7 p.m. Thursday at William Paca House and Garden, 186 Prince George St.

Experienced and novice croquet players can enjoy a leisurely game in a 2-acre 18th- century pleasure garden.

Guests also will be welcome to stroll through the garden or try their hands at Colonial games such as graces, stick and hoop, and cup and ball.

Admission is $20 for foundation members and $25 for nonmembers. Reservations and prepayment are required.

Theraputic riding group offers summer sessions

Maryland Therapeutic Riding, an Annapolis nonprofit organization, offers therapeutic riding and hippotherapy sessions through June 8 for individuals with disabilities.

Riding times are available Monday through Thursday mornings, Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings with slots for new riders. The organization offers scholarships to qualified riders.

Photography to be topic of public relations meeting

Professional photographer Vince Lupo will discuss his craft at noon May 23 at the monthly meeting of the Annapolis/Anne Arundel Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

Lupo will discuss the purchase of photographs, securing reproduction rights, subject waivers and the selection of photographers. Other topics will include the impact of photographs, cropping and the use of digital photography.

The luncheon meeting, which is open to the public, will be held at the Annapolis Radisson Hotel off Riva Road on Holiday Court. Reservations are required. The cost is $18 for members and $20 for nonmembers.

Lupo is director of photography and design for Direction One Inc. in Annapolis, a commercial photography company. He recently installed two murals in the main lobby of Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Join the Jaycees: The Annapolis Jaycees are holding a membership drive this month. New-member orientation seminars will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday and May 30 at the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce, 151 West St., Annapolis. Chevy's Mexican Restaurant on Route 2 will sponsor a new-member night tonight. Jaycees will be on hand to answer questions about the organization, and 10 percent of the cost of each meal served from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. will be donated to the Annapolis Jaycees Foundation. 410-224-1776.

History camp: A history camp will be offered for ages 6 to 10 from July 15-19 at Captain Salem Avery House Museum, 1418 E. West Shady Side Road. Campers can sign up for morning sessions, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., or afternoon sessions, from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. The camp will include a field trip to Cypress Swamp. The cost is $40.
