Police break up fighting at Frederick drag strip

1 arrested

MONROVIA - An unruly crowd of more than 1,000 people confronted police who responded to reports of fighting at the 75 & 80 Dragstrip about 10 p.m. Friday, authorities said yesterday.

Deputies with the Frederick County sheriff's office arrested one woman. In a report about the fighting, Sgt. Gordon Geesey wrote that the crowd surrounded five deputies at one point and tried to "entice them" into a confrontation.

"It took assistance from both the Frederick and Westminster barracks of the state solice, as well as the MSP helicopter and a K-9 unit to restore order and disperse the crowd," Geesey reported. Geesey said deputies responding to a report of a fight arrived to find many small fights throughout the grounds. Several people were removed for acting disorderly.

Shannon Leigh Tenley, 18, of the 1200 block of Daniel Court in Frederick was arrested. She is accused of hindering efforts by police investigating a report that her boyfriend was armed with a knife, Geesey said.
