Devil Rays update

Tampa Bay's losing streak reached 14 games with last night's 3-1 loss to the Yankees - matching the longest in the majors since 1988 when the Orioles dropped 21 straight. The Devil Rays are the first American League team to lose 14 in a row since the Milwaukee Brewers - now in the NL - did it in 1994. All of the Devil Rays' losses have come against first- or second-place teams. The Orioles don't qualify. Tampa Bay made a roster move Wednesday, releasing third baseman Bobby Smith and recalling Jared Sandberg from Triple-A Durham. These teams split two games at Camden Yards on April 10-11. The Orioles took two of three later in the month at Tropicana Field, including a 14-inning affair. The following night, Wilson allowed four runs, including a homer by Jay Gibbons, in six innings to take the loss. Ponson fell to 0-2 in the finale despite holding the Devil Rays to two runs over 7 2/3 innings.
