Sadie Anderson, 79, practical nurse

Sadie Anderson, a retired practical nurse, died Saturday of emphysema at Howard County General Hospital. The Elkridge resident was 79.

Born in Elkridge, Sadie Barber attended Howard County public schools.

She worked at the old South Baltimore General Hospital on Light Street many years ago, then moved to Chicago and worked at Cook County General Hospital before returning to Elkridge and doing private-duty nursing.

She earned a degree as a licensed practical nurse at what is now Baltimore City Community College.

She was a member of St. Stephen's African Methodist Episcopal Church in Elkridge, where she sang in its senior choir.

Her husband of 25 years, William Wesley Blackstone, died in 1992. She subsequently married Harry Anderson, who died in 1995.

Services were held yesterday.

She is survived by three sons, Elwood W. Blackstone of Baltimore and Eugene C. Blackstone and Freeman A. Pate, both of Elkridge; a daughter, Lucile F. Robinson of Baltimore; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
