Katie Chrest scored two goals in the final 1:15 to lead No. 2 Maryvale to a 10-9 victory over No. 14 St. Paul's in yesterday's Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference girls lacrosse quarterfinal.

The host Lions (11-1-1) trailed 9-8 after St. Paul's Annie Wagner scored her fifth goal of the game with 3:42 left. A minute and a half later, the Gators (9-8-3) seemed in control when goalie Nicki Hunt ran down a ground ball behind her cage, but the Gators were offside and the Lions got the ball.

Chrest (five goals) tied the score on a free-position score. The Lions won the ensuing draw deep in their own backfield, but they put together an end-to-end passing series that culminated in Emily Vitrano's feed to Chrest for a high shot past Hunt (11 saves) with 46 seconds left.

The Gators had one last chance to tie, but Molly Ahearn's shot at the far low corner barely missed and the Lions won the race to the sideline for the loose ball.

The Lions, who also got three goals from Kelly Mulford, play host to Roland Park in the semifinals at 4 p.m. tomorrow.

No. 10 Roland Park 14, No. 5 Notre Dame Prep 13: The host Reds (8-7) used a sudden-death goal from Catie Mangels to oust the defending champions.

The Blazers (10-4-1) jumped out to a 4-0 lead but fell behind in the second half and needed Carli Vogler's goal with 20 seconds left to tie at 12. The teams traded goals through the first six minutes of overtime.

In sudden death, NDP goalie Megan Sneeringer made a kick save against Lindsay Higgins (four goals), but the Reds' Sara Zorzi came up with the ground ball. Zorzi passed to Alex Nolan, who was triple-teamed and dumped the ball off to Mangels. The sophomore slashed down the middle for the game-winner.

Reds goalie Ashley Thompson had 15 saves. Coco Stanwick's four goals and two assists led the Blazers.

No. 8 Bryn Mawr 6, St. Mary's 5: Olachi Oparah drove down the middle for the deciding goal with 1:10 remaining as the Mawrtians (12-3-3) advanced to tomorrow's A Conference semifinals. They travel to Mount de Sales at 4 p.m.

In a game neither team led by more than a goal, Bryn Mawr's line defense and St. Mary's midfield defense played critical roles in keeping scoring to a minimum. Mary Key led the visiting Saints (10-9-3) with two goals while Megan Burker and Jenn Redd scored two each for Bryn Mawr.

No. 12 Mount de Sales 14, No. 9 Severn 6: The Sailors (12-3-2) jumped out to a 10-3 halftime lead to finish off the visiting Admirals (13-5-2) early with Katy Kirby (four goals, two assists) and Molly Grace (two goals, four assists) leading the way.
