Medve, DeColli elected in Mount Airy

First-time Mount Airy Town Council candidates John Medve and Chris DeColli won election yesterday, defeating nine-term incumbent Council President R. Delaine Hobbs.

In the mayoral race, incumbent Gerald R. Johnson defeated write-in candidate James Holt.

In the final tallies that became available late last night, Medve had 621 votes and DeColli 444 to the 431 cast for Hobbs.

Two other council candidates, Michael Boyer and Denise Morgan, received 395 and 164 votes, respectively.

In the mayoral race, Johnson had 492 votes to Holt's 311, winning a fourth term in office. Johnson was unopposed in 1998.

Of 3,965 registered voters, 1,079 cast ballots yesterday.
