Yard sale tomorrow at Hammond Elementary

The Hammond Elementary School PTA will hold a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow at the school, 8110 Aladdin Drive, in North Laurel.

About 100 families are expected to participate in the sale, which will feature concessions. Selling space is sold out, but bargain hunters are welcome.

Proceeds will benefit PTA-sponsored programs at the school. The rain date is Sunday.

Montpelier Spring Festival is scheduled Sunday

The South Laurel Recreation Council will hold the 32nd Montpelier Spring Festival from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday on the grounds of Montpelier Mansion, Route 197 at Montpelier Drive, Laurel.

The free cultural arts festival includes four stages of continuous entertainment, music, dance, children's programs, a petting zoo, artists and artisans, a children's parade, free pony rides, face-painting and balloons, exhibits by community organizations, tours of the historic mansion and food.

Admission and parking are free.

Returns: Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Billy J. Childress, son of Maureen J. Childress of Jessup, has returned from a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Persian Gulf while assigned to the dock landing ship USS Whidbey Island, based in Little Creek, Va. He is a 1998 graduate of Hammond High School.

Changing colors: Hammond High School is changing its colors from brown and gold to gold and maroon. Donations are being accepted to buy new uniforms for the band. 410-313-7624.
